A bildungsroman entitled Early Lessons in the Classical Language is emailed to all subscribers free. Once I saw this as an adventure instead of a job, the girls, boys, men, women, what they did and didn’t do, said and didn’t say, felt and didn’t feel, thought and didn’t think, their changing roles, the ambiance, the language, the where and why smacked me across the face and I was no longer old Jo, but black Frisco jeans and blue denim workshirt Jo, striding up the gangplank of the Flying Dragon, off to the Far East, fearless, bold, stupid and young. Feuilletons made sense now, write as you will, write as you sail, write as you ride, you’re not presenting anything done.
